Safa Masjid

KSP_9227

25km southeast of Panjim just outside Ponda is the Safa Masjid. It’s located right by the main road, so a very short walk to see the mosque and tank up close. Other than that there is not a lot to see in the immediate area, so this should be combined with other destinations in and around Ponda.

The Safa Masjid was built in 1560 during the late Adil Shahi period, and is the oldest functioning mosque in Goa. By the time it was built, much of the coastal areas of Goa were already under the control of the Portuguese.
