Consisting of four lines, it refers to the four noble truths of the Buddhist doctrine, as outlined in Buddha’s first sermon at Sarnath. The four noble truths (Chatvari Aryastyani) are; 1 – Sorrow, 2 – Cause of sorrow, 3 – Cessation of sorrow, 4 – The way.
