Mahabalipuram Beach

KSP_8868

Mahabalipuram is of course most famous for the Shore TemplePancha Rathas, Central Monuments and Tiger Cave – all built during the period of the Pallava Kings. But the town does have a lot more to offer, most notably Mahabalipuram Beach.

Situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, the beach is 20km long and is well worth exploring for the day. With the Shore Temple located about half way along the beach front, I spent most of my time exploring the shoreline to the north.

If you’re in the town and pushed for time, I would suggest going in late afternoon. Not long before dusk will see all the boats heading out en-mass on their fishing adventures.

Meanwhile, other family members are left behind to mend their nets and pass the time of day before darkness finally descends.
